inspiration

everyone asks where the inspiration for my designs comes from. instead of answering you directly, i think the best answer is to tell you a little about myself, and the way i look at things.

the story

i grew up wanting to be a scientist, to take the world apart and see the gears. then life taught me its first honest lesson: you can't compute any of it.

the curiosity didn't die. it changed shape. the kid's “how does this work?”became the grown-up's “what does this mean?”

the search started in high school. films, series, books, records played until they meant something. i've designed for one year. i've collected meaning much longer.

no ritual, no checklist, no question i ask first. just joy. meaning is what you add to yourself. we are such unique beings. this is how i add mine.

why this record

björk built vespertine out of tiny sounds. music boxes, shuffled cards, whispers, snow. it taught me that softness is a design decision, and that small details can carry an entire world.

why this film

tarkovsky never hurries and never explains. the zone simply waits for you to pay attention. hold the frame long enough and meaning arrives on its own. that patience rewired me.

why this book

plath rose at four in the morning, in the last months of her life, and wrote two or three poems a day. she took the plainest things, bees, tulips, a cut thumb, and pressed meaning into them until they glowed. that is the whole job.

the quote

when i look for inspiration,
i remember this:

twist your head around
it's all around you
